Our Story

Behind the Design

Wellnest began with a piece of land that felt both close to the village and worlds away from everything. What started as a residential transformation project became something so much more: a private mountain sanctuary created to hold rest, beauty, connection, and possibility.

Every detail was shaped through the lens of home — not just how a place looks, but how it makes people feel when they arrive, exhale, and settle in.

Wellnest is the brainchild of Custom Nest, an Orange County-based interior design team led by husband-and-wife team, Duc and Lisa Nguyen. The catalyst for Custom Nest began in 2019 when Lisa was reading about a mountain community 2 hours from Los Angeles. She quickly googled the description and Crestline and Lake Arrowhead came up on the search. That weekend, the family took a little road trip and purchased the second home they saw that day. What started as a family vacation home in 2019 quickly pivoted into a thriving business and lifelong passion realized.

Today, Custom Nest comprises a tight-knit team of tradesmen and subcontractors. We are passionately restoring homes, documenting our work on Instagram and having loads of fun!

Custom Nest is a boutique interior design + renovation company, specializing in vintage-character homes and high-end residential and commercial projects. Our signature aesthetic is deeply rooted in a desire to simplify without sacrificing beauty, style or comfort.

The Design Team

  • Duc A. Nguyen

    Duc is a licensed General Contractor in the state of California. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Films from the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, California. Outside of Custom Nest, Duc runs a film production company called Avec Lumiere Productions.

  • Lisa T.D. Nguyen

    Lisa completed her interior design studies at the Interior Design Institute. She also holds a Bachelor of Law and Master of Laws from the University of Sydney, Australia where she grew up. Prior to starting Custom Nest, Lisa founded a children's footwear company and patented a push-and-twist lock mechanism to allow for interchangeable accessories on shoes. Baubles and Soles appeared and landed a deal on Shark Tank in 2019 and was later acquired by a private equity company in 2021.

  • Juan Aguilar + Team

    We are beyond blessed to work with a small tight-knit team of amazing tradesmen. Beyond our core team, we have a wide network of subs and contractors that work with us to bring our vision to life.

    At the heart of our field team is Juan Aguilar, our Foreman. While technically not on the “design team,” Juan works closely with Lisa and generally makes her wild design dreams come true!
